Near Northwest Management District Hosting Presentation on Reducing Evictions for Area Apartment Complexes
A program to help complexes reduce costly skips and evictions
Owners and property managers of apartment complexes in the Near Northwest Management District are invited to a free program on how to dramatically reduce 'skips' and evictions on Tuesday, September 9 from 10 am to 11 am at the District's office at 5300 Hollister, Suite 100.
"In the apartment industry, there will always be some level of evictions, but area property owners are beginning to see that the level we are experiencing is a crisis and hurts our entire area," said Tom Miller, chair of the Near Northwest Management District's SuperBlock One Committee and owner of the Hollyview Apartments. "'Skips' and evictions are some of the greatest financial drains on properties in the Near Northwest Management District and it is time to work together to reduce this costly resident skipping."
The program, sponsored by the Houston Apartment Association's Resident Credit Reporting organization outlines the pattern for skipping and processes and tools properties can use to screen prospective tenants and reduce the pattern of skipping which results in high tenant turnover and lower occupancy.
"Working together we can dramatically reduce the skips, evictions and the resulting bad debt, by forming a coalition and using the best available data base tools to more effectively screen," Miller said. "Our success will be measured and the results used by the Houston Apartment Association as a standard for promoting a city-wide program to reduce skips and evictions throughout the Houston apartment industry."
