Shepherd's Harvest Farmers Market offers a variety of food choices
The Shepherd Drive Fellowship is sponsoring a farmers market on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm at 600 Shepherd Dr. The Shepherd's Harvest Farmers Market is free to the public to browse and buy organic and home grown produce as well as tasty and exotic foods. There is also a plethora of organic jams, jelly, sauces and beautifully ornate iron decorations. Some vendors sell spices and all natural skin and body products. Hospitality bottled water and frozen lemonade are available.
The market is held outdoors and is canceled in the event of rain. Anyone interested in becoming a vendor can call the church office at 713-861-3563. Vendors must provide their own stalls or tables and provide their own set up. No fees are required.
The market is year round and will have a concert series in the fall, featuring Hamilton Lummis (jazz), Evaneline, and Beetle. There will also be a calendar of community activities for all to enjoy.
Shepherd Drive Fellowship, a ministry of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, is located inside the Loop between I-10 and Memorial. The Fellowship's roots in the Washington Ave./Shepherd Dr. community reach back to 1899. In an effort to meet the growing needs of the urban Houston transformation, Shepherd Drive UMC merged with Memorial Drive UMC in May of 2006. The Fellowship is in the process of "re-envisioning" their future as "a church in a culturally diverse area experiencing re-gentrification." Their mission they say is to connect people to God and neighbor. For more information visit their website at www.mdumc.org/sd.
